About the Bai Jia Bei...

In Northern China, it is a tradition to create a Bai Jia Bei ("100 Good Wishes" quilt) to celebrate a new life. It is a custom to invite 100 people to contribute a patch of cloth with a good wish for the new child. The patches of cloth are sewn together into a quilt that contains the luck, energy and good wishes from all those who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.
A Memory Book is created with all the pieces of paper containing the good wishes. When she is old enough to understand, she will be able to look at the book and quilt to see all who sent her the good wishes.
